They're from the middle east. They don't care to climb, they like to dig instead, but you shouldn't use sand in captivity. You shouldn't use and substrate they can fit in their mouth, really. Get some wood or caves for them to hide in. I don't think you'd call it a baskin but the cage should have a warm side and cooler side, something like low 80's on the cool side, high 80's on the warm side.
